Had a body fat percentage test this morning; currently at ~14%. I need to lose ~940g of fat to get to my 13% target.
…must come to an end. The last month or so has been pretty quiet on the training/racing front (with one notable exception) — it’s our annual rest and recovery month. All this is drawing to a close however, and it’s time to start thinking about the winter running season as well as next summer… and Busselton is only 223 days away.
I’m actually really looking forward to getting back into serious training. I have a couple of goals to aim for with my running (I want to set new PBs for both the half marathon and marathon this winter) and I’m keen to do some work on my swim. Should be a fun few months ahead.
The last race of the season, and definitely one of the most fun. I actually raced pretty well — despite having backed off on training pretty significantly after racing Ironman 70.3 Geelong last month — setting my best bike and run splits for the distance and sitting near my peak swim pace.
Now for a couple of weeks or so off tri training while I get prepped for Trailwalker (incidentally, we’re still looking for sponsors!), a couple of weeks off completely after that, then into training for Busselton. I’m really looking forward to this winter.
Counting down… 266 days (38 weeks!) really isn’t all that far off.
(And the iPhone app I’m using for the countdown is Big Day Lite.)
Ironman is every person trying to find out what he can do. Swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, run 26.2 miles; brag for the rest of your life. — Commander John Collins USN, Ironman founder
Due to one of my team members falling ill, I ended up going around twice - but given it wasn’t a long event, I wasn’t too upset about that. On the whole, I wasn’t overly happy with my times; the first time around, I probably went a bit conservatively; and my second go really showed up my lack of training since racing the 70.3 in Geelong a few weeks back.
(We didn’t get transition times in the results… I’m assuming they’re worked into the overall time somehow.)
It was all a lot of fun though, which I guess is the main point of BRW anyway.
Only one race left for the season: Gatorade Race 6 at St Kilda in three weeks’ time. I’ll have to jump into the training again so that I can have a decent go at it. And after that, the winter program begins…
Just a quick one: after consulting a few people (and most importantly, my coach!), I’ve re-jigged my race plan a bit and signed on to do Ironman WA in Busselton this December.
Yes, it’s a bit ambitious (especially given I only did my first triathlon a couple of months ago), but after Geelong, I’d already decided that I wanted to go the full iron distance and the course at Busso is supposed to be pretty flat and fast - ideal for a first timer. And what’s the point in waiting?
This is going to hurt (but even if it’s only half the buzz I got from Geelong, it’ll be well worth it).
Swimming is the worst part of a triathlon: if you stop pedalling on a bike you coast; if you stop running, you walk; but if you stop swimming, you drown. — Unknown
